IQ Testing

Do you need standalone IQ testing for your child’s school or your own exploration?

What is IQ Testing?

Testing cognitive ability, also known as IQ testing, is a standardized method used to measure a person's cognitive abilities and intellectual potential. It assesses various aspects of cognitive functioning, such as logical reasoning, problem-solving, memory, mathematical skills, and language proficiency. Typically, IQ tests consist of a series of questions or tasks designed to evaluate a person’s ability to think, learn, and adapt to new situations. Results of this assessment are then compared to a normative group of individuals of the same age, providing a numerical score that represents a person's relative intelligence compared to the population. While IQ tests have been criticized for their cultural and environmental biases, they continue to be widely used in education, psychology, and employment settings to help assess and understand an individual's intellectual abilities.

Who is IQ Testing For?

There are several assessments for children, teenagers, and adults that adequately measure cognitive functioning. Some commonly used assessments include:

  • Wechsler Preschool & Primary Scale of Intelligence, Fourth Ed (WPPSI-IV)
  • Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Ed (WISC-V)
  • Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, Fourth Ed (WAIS-IV)
